We were invited to enter an ideas competition for a technology
show to be held in a 62,700 sq ft space at Fort Mason. The goal was to design
a project to “showcase a bold and inspiring vision of the future of communication,
design, energy, entertainment, health, the home, space, security, and transportation.”
The organizers asked for an environment that would support a few thematically
separate major exhibits and a large number of independent minor exhibits.
Our solution was to design a series of large pods for the major exhibitors
that would be acoustically isolated from the rest of the show and a network
of circulation channels to house the smaller exhibits. The channels would
act as non-linear circulation ribbons that would increase the visibility of
the smaller exhibits by allowing the exhibitors to embed informational displays,
lighting, and storage into a continuous form.
